BTW, I finally came around to your sense about Lucifer - that the way he was being played by Mark Pellegrino was less than fully engaging.
For instance, Mark Sheppard as Crowley and the guy who played Death were outstanding - just wonderful. But Pellegrino's character just was not a standout to me. I wanted to be riveted by him, and I wasn't - he was kind of weak and whiny and not sufficiently seductive. Though Death, I repeat, was mesmerizing - he had all those qualities in spades, like the guy was born to play that role. He's a Shakespearan actor, I've been informed. I think they needed someone of that quality for early Lucifer, too.
I like your point about the Horsemen being the vehicle of Lucifer's fall - that in roping in Death to do his bidding, his pride overshot and he lost everything - again.
